Naast het geven van cursussen pottenbakken en glazuurworkshop probeer ik nog tijd vrij te maken om zelf achter de draaischijf te kruipen en werk te maken.
Dat is waar het allemaal mee begonnen is, altijd al een potje willen draaien en inmiddels uitgegroeid tot pottenbakkerij met webshop voor kwastglazuren en tools.

Waar ik voorheen op keramiek- en kunstmarkten stond om mijn werk te verkopen, heb ik nu een webshop ingericht met al het werk wat ik op voorraad heb.
Elk werk wordt met de hand vervaardigd op de draaischijf of met de hand opgebouwd. Eenmaal gemaakt is het belangrijk dat je je werk goed laat drogen voor dat het het gaat bakken.
De eerste stook is de biscuitstook, dit gebeurt op 1060 graden en duurt ongeveer 2 dagen voordat het uit de oven komt.

Na de biscuitstook kan er een kleur/decoratie op de keramiek gezet worden. Ook dat is een tijdrovend proces, van elke laag worden minimaal 3 lagen glazuur aangebracht.  Het spelen met glazuren en het vinden van unieke combinaties is fantastisch om te doen. Vaak is het ook zo dat er wel 4 of 5 lagen glazuur aangebracht worden op het werk om het gewenste resultaat te hebben.

Als alle kleuren erop zitten moet het werk weer goed drogen en dan wordt het nog een keer gestookt voor de glazuurstook. Dit is voor serviesgoed en vazen op 1220 graden (steengoed). Hierdoor krijgt het een stevige scherf, waardoor het werk ook geschikt is voor de vaatwasser.  Niet al het werk wordt op deze temperatuur gestookt dit hangt af van de glazuren die gebruikt worden. Maak ik gebruik van aardewerk kwastglazuren wordt het werk op 1040 graden gestookt voor de glazuurstook. Het is met dit werk aan te raden om de keramiek met de hand af te wassen, aangezien het wat kwetsbaarder en poreuzer is.

Each work is made by hand and is unique.

Once made it’s important that you let your work dry well before it starts firing.
The first firing is the cookie firing, this is done at 1060 degrees and takes about 2 days before it comes out of the oven.

After the bisquefiring a color/decoration can be put on the ceramics. This is also a time-consuming process, since each layer has to be brushed at least 3 layers of glaze. Playing with glazes and finding unique combinations is fantastic to do.It is often the case that 4 or 5 layers of glaze are applied at work to achieve the desired result.

When all the colors are brushed, the work has to dry well again and then it will be fired again for the glaze firing. When all colors are glazed, it has to dry well and then it will be fired again for the glaze firing. This is for tableware and vases at 1220 degrees (stoneware). This gives it a solid shard, which makes the work also suitable for the dishwasher. Not all work is fired at this temperature, this depends on wich glazes I use. When I use earthenware glazes the work is fired at 1040 degrees for the glaze firing. With this work it is advisable to wash the ceramic pieces by hand, as it is more fragile and porous.
